Junk Drumming

Michael Freeman is a freelance music practitioner, composer and educator. Born in Birmingham he grew up absorbing many multi-cultural influences which continue to inspire his work. He studied piano and composition at Birmingham Music Studios, later continuing his studies with jazz piano in Newcastle. Michael's work involves a whole range of musical styles and covers junk music as well as conventional percussion, composition and improvisation. In the past Michael has worked for The Maltings Arts Centre in Berwick upon Tweed as well as The Sage Gateshead. He has delivered sessions across the country at many schools, museums, country parks, hospitals and conferences including the prestigious Dartington International Summer School and the Spitalfields Festival.

Michael has also produced original recorded music and sound effects for many companies including the BBC, Tyne Tees TV, Discovery Channel and The National Trust. He brings a vast amount of experience to the Academy and hopes to inspire his groups to get involved with many types of music.
